Newcastle United might have new owners but they also look set for a relegation battle this season. The hunt for a new manager continues, with Unai Emery having apparently decided against leaving Villarreal to take charge at Newcastle, with Eddie Howe now strong favourite to take charge.

A number of betting sites are offering a Next Newcastle United Manager betting market although it looks like Howe is now in pole position to replace Steve Bruce.

Howe Now Favourite for Newcastle Job

Eddie Howe has been out of work since leaving Bournemouth at the end of the 2019/20 season, with the 43-year-old having been unable to keep the Cherries afloat in the Premier League and he was quick to fall on his sword at the Vitality Stadium and take a break from football management following his successful stint at the Dorset club.

It has now been well over a year since Howe held this coaching position and perhaps Newcastle will offer him an opportunity to get back into Premier League management, although his odds were drifting on this market when he was being linked with the Celtic manager's position until he decided against the role.

There’s something of a Bournemouth connection already at St James’ Park when you consider that Matt Ritchie, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser are all on the books at Newcastle and it might be that Howe is attracted to the possibility of resurrecting this massive English football club and steering them further up the table.

Could Roberto Martinez Be a Surprise Appointment?

One notable name on the Next Newcastle United Manager betting market is Roberto Martinez who continues to fare well as the manager of Belgium and led the Red Devils to the quarter final of the Euro 2020 tournament after previously making the semi-final stage of the 2018 World Cup.

However, Martinez has always been a young international manager and it will be interesting to see whether he fancies returning to domestic management instead, with the Spaniard having plenty of experience when it comes to managing British football clubs considering that he’s taking charge of Wigan, Swansea and Everton.

Indeed, he has a strong connection to Graeme Jones who is the assistant manager to Steve Bruce right now and it doesn’t take a flight of fancy to join the dots and come up with the possibility that we’ll see Martinez return to the Premier League and take on the massive task of trying to restore the fortunes of Newcastle United. Incidentally, he has also been touted as a possible candidate to be the next manager of Barcelona.

Fonseca Linked to Newcastle Manager's Position

Sky Sports previously reported that Paulo Fonseca could be in line to replace Steve Bruce and the bookies have reacted by making the former Roma manager to take charge. Fonseca was apparently close to replacing Jose Mourinho at Tottenham during the summer before a deal fell through, although he is interested in the latest opportunity.

The 48-year-old was in charge of the Rome club between 2019-21, with the manager having previously taken the reins at Shakhtar Donetsk after a number of positions held in his native Portugal. He was highly successful in Ukraine and also guided Roma to a Europa League semi-final before losing to Manchester United.

Frank Lampard Among Favourites for Newcastle Gig

It remains to be seen whether Frank Lampard will ever return to football management after his recent stints with Derby County and Chelsea, with the former England international unable to match the expectation level of Roman Abramovich at Stamford Bridge and he was recently replaced by Thomas Tuchel at the west London club, with Lampard now taking stock of the situation.

It’s hard to describe Lampard as a bad manager considering that he did pretty well with Derby during his only season at Pride Park and steered them into the play-offs. This was partly due to the loan acquisitions of Fikayo Tomori, Harry Wilson and Mason Mount, the latter of whom is now a Chelsea and England regular.

However, Lampard is among the betting favourites to become the next manager of Newcastle United and he’s previously demonstrated that he’s not short of ambition, while expectation levels will be a good deal lower at the Tyneside club compared to his short time at Chelsea, with the manager still young and looking for the next step of his career.

Lucien Favre Among Favourites to Replace Bruce

Lucien Favre has been all the rage this weekend, with the former Borussia Dortmund now heading the betting to take charge of the Tyneside club. The Frenchman enjoyed a fifteen-match unbeaten run in the Bundesliga with Dortmund shortly after taking over. Despite things eventually turning sour, his managerial stats at the club included 67 wins, 17 draws and 23 losses.

It would make sense for Favre to be on the shortlist considering he also has experience of managing teams in Europe, with the 63-year-old having previously managed Nice and he managed to steer the Ligue 1 side to third place during his debut season, thus seeing them qualify for the Champions League for the first time. He has also held positions with Borussia Monchengladbach and Hertha Berlin.

Gerrard Now Among Next Newcastle Manager Favourites

Perhaps a Steve will be replaced by a Steven at St James' Park. Steven Gerrard is currently the manager of Glasgow Rangers although the opportunity to take charge of a rejuvenated Newcastle United could make plenty of appeal to someone who has impressed ever since taking charge at Ibrox.

Gerrard has ended the Celtic stranglehold when it comes to the Scottish Premiership and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him interviewed for this role, with the scouser ultimately looking to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield further down the line.

Chris Wilder Looking for a Fresh Managerial Opportunity

Chris Wilder made a silk purse out of a sow’s ear when it came to the 2019/20 season in charge of Sheffield United, even if he was unable to repeat the same trick this time around, with the 53-year-old recently parting company with the Yorkshire club after completely transforming the fortunes of an outfit who were sitting in League One when he originally took charge.

Wilder will surely not be short of offers when it comes to his next managerial role and many betting apps have the former Northampton and Oxford manager as one of their betting favourites to replace Bruce at St James’ Park, with this potentially being a role which would interest a manager who would be given a better squad than the one he had at Bramall Lane.

It would be interesting to see whether Wilder would be prepared to work with owner Mike Ashley considering that the latter has reluctantly invested in players over the past few years, with the Sports Direct owner having had the club up for sale which means that there is seemingly no long-term plan in place at the Tyneside club.

Emery Drifts on Newcastle Betting Market

Unai Emery is currently in charge of Villarreal, with the Spaniard having led the Yellow Submarine to a Europa League triumph last season when beating Manchester United in the final. He previously did some excellent work with Sevilla, although struggled to make an impact at Arsenal after replacing Arsene Wenger.

Emery was favourite to replace Steve Bruce at Newcastle and appeared to tick all the right boxes, although news emerged on Wednesday morning that the former Gunners manager is now likely to be remaining with the Spanish club after deciding that the Newcastle position wasn't that attractive.

Benitez Unlikely to Take Charge After Everton Switch

The supporters would have loved to have heard the news that Rafael Benitez is coming back to the Toon and some bookies have the Spaniard among the favourites to take charge of the Magpies for a second occasion. However, it’s tough to see how the current Everton boss would take charge considering he has taken the reins at Goodison Park.

Everton supporters certainly don't seem encouraged by the prospect of Benitez in charge although the former Liverpool manager is planning on a long stint on Merseyside and it means that the prospect of him returning to St James' Park are remote.

It also appears that Benitez and Mike Ashley regularly failed to see eye-to-eye when it came to investing in new players and the direction of the club, with the former only prepared to take on a new role providing that there’s a vision for what the team can potentially achieve and ideally that would be winning silverware.

Brendan Rodgers Drifts on NUFC Market

Brendan Rodgers hasn't enjoyed the best of starts at Leicester City this season and it's plausible that the Northern Irishman is now looking for a fresh challenge away from the Midlands club. Having steered them desperately close to the Champions League spots and also engineered an FA Cup victory, Rodgers might feel as though he's taken the Foxes as far as he can.

At the age of 48, Rodgers is ambitious and looking to win trophies, with the new owners at St James' Park potentially identifying him as someone who can build a squad capable of challenging for major honours. It will be interesting to see whether Leicester are prepared to let him talk with the Tyneside club although Rodgers has publicly stated that he has no interest.

Could Graeme Jones Be Promoted From Within?

Graeme Jones joined the Newcastle United coaching staff at the end of January, with the Gateshead-born coach having already worked with a number of other high-profile clubs including Wigan Athletic and Swansea City. His installation was apparently not done at the behest of Steve Bruce, although the pair have been working together since that point.

Jones also answered his country's call this summer to join Gareth Southgate's England Euro 2020 squad set-up, with the coach potentially the natural successor to Bruce and it's always possible that Mike Ashley might promote the 51-year-old whose arrival coincided with an upturn in form for United last term.

Indeed, Jones' stock could be remarkably high after England's bright performances at the 2020 European Championship, with Paddy Power and betfair now making him favourite to lead a team with whom he's familiar after growing up on Tyneside.

Conte Could Also Be Interested in Newcastle Project

Antonio Conte is someone with an outstanding managerial track record, with the Italian having already secured an English Premier League title during his short spell with Chelsea. Since then he has scooped a Serie A title with Inter Milan and could well take charge of Newcastle.

Conte would be an expensive hire although there are lots of reasons to think he could do well on Tyneside if given the money, while there are plenty of players who will want to arrive at the club to play for him.
